Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Twehous Excavating Company Inc Compensation and Benefit Offerings:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Perform repairs on equipment and vehicles, including but not limited to, diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, air brakes, hydraulic brakes, hydraulic systems, automatic transmissions and clutches, suspension systems and computer control systems.
  • Perform welding repairs and fabrication to various types of equipment
  • Perform engine tune-ups
  • Repair/replace tires
  • Record materials used and time spent on repairs
  • Overhaul engines, both diesel and gasoline, to required specifications
  • Use shop tools and testing or diagnostic equipment safely and efficiently
  • Perform routine servicing and make minor repairs to vehicles and other equipment
  • Fabricate, install, and repair various mechanical devices
  • Use hand and power-driven tools and equipment such as grinders, hammers, sanders, drill presses, lathes, testing and welding equipment, and other mechanical shop tools and equipment
  • Safely use a welder and cutting torch
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Skills and Specifications:

  • High School Degree (preferred)
  • 2-5 years of experience as a mechanic or mechanic’s helper OR a technical university degree or certificate
  • Basic or advanced math skills
  • General knowledge of construction materials, tools, and equipment
  • Ability to work with different construction equipment/tools
  • Manual dexterity
  • Ability to effectively communicate with crew, contractors and Job Superintendent(s)
  • Understand instructions from supervisory positions, both written and verbal
  • Possess necessary communication skills in both written and verbal forms
  • Must be punctual, have a strong work ethic, and maintain a good attendance record
  • Must be able to work as a team on all projects

Concrete Carpenter

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Be able to follow all Company or site-specific safety rules
  • Build/place/brace/align handset concrete forms
  • Inspect formwork to ensure correct installation
  • Place and finish concrete. Trowel finish and broom finish
  • Install rebar reinforcement for concrete foundations
  • Spread concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, using float to bring water to surface and produce soft topping
  • Level, smooth and shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete using straightedge and float or power screed
  • Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound
  • Strip and clean forms. Patch stripped concrete

  • Performs heavy manual labor including, digging, lifting, climbing, carrying and installation
  • Operates various hand tools, including but not limited to jackhammer, demo saws, shovels, and survey equipment,
  • General housekeeping to maintain a safe and efficient worksite
  • Cleaning and disposing of materials on the worksite
  • Perform light maintenance on equipment and tools
  • Erect and/or install traffic control signs and participate in traffic control activities
  • Access manholes, enter confined spaces, and work from ladders
  • Assist heavy equipment operators to secure attachments to equipment

  • Interpret and use grade designs for quarry development.
