Drilling & Blasting Superintendent

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Design, load, and detonate blasts according to site-specific plans and regulatory standards
- Drill blast holes in designated patterns based on project requirements
- Monitor environmental conditions (weather, ground stability, geological anomalies etc.) to adjust blasting techniques as necessary
- Conduct post-blast inspections to ensure successful detonation and safety compliance.
- Follow all federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA and MSHA guidelines
- Maintain and enforce strict safety protocols to protect workers, equipment, and surrounding areas
- Conduct pre-blast and post-blast safety checks
- Store, transport, and handle explosives in compliance with legal regulations
- Operate and maintain blasting equipment, including drills, seismographs and detonators
- Inspect tools and machinery before and after use to ensure proper functioning
- Troubleshoot issues related to detonation failure, misfires, or unexpected results
- Read and interpret site plans, and blasting specifications
- Calculate explosive quantities, charge distributions, and timing sequences for optimal results
- Communicate with engineers, site supervisors, and crew members to coordinate blast schedules
- Ensure blasting activities do not disrupt nearby structures, roadways, or sensitive areas
- Maintain detailed records of blast operations, safety procedures, and explosive usage
Education/Skills and Specifications:
- High School Degree (preferred)
- Basic or advanced math skills, knowledge of design/plans and construction principles
- General knowledge of construction materials, tools, and equipment
- Ability to work with different construction equipment/tools
- Manual dexterity
- Ability to effectively communicate with crew, contractors and Job Superintendent(s)
- Understand instructions from supervisory positions, both written and verbal
- Possess necessary communication skills in both written and verbal forms
- Must be punctual, have a strong work ethic, and maintain a good attendance record
- Must be able to work as a team on all projects
Position Requirements:
- Consent to authorization of a pre-employment work screen
- Must be able to pass a drug screen
- Consent to authorization of a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record request
- Current Missouri Blaster’s License preferred
- Class A CDL w/ HAZMAT endorsement preferred
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Willingness to work overtime, nights, weekends, as needed
- Willingness to travel/work out of town
